Jo Schoenmaker is an active flying 10.000+ hours captain, flight instructor and examiner (TRE/TRI) on the Boeing 737 Next Gen, flying for transavia.com, one of KLM’s subsidiaries.
He started his career as a police officer. He was selected and trained as a pilot for the Aviation Branch of the Dutch National Police and flew fixed wing aircraft for police and coastguard.
He joined transavia.com in 1991 and held several positions within his company, including safety trainer, safety officer, project manager, security advisor and security trainer. He developed training in the areas of security and Crew Resource Management (CRM).
Captain Jo Schoenmaker is in aviation security since 2005, when he joined the security committee of VNV-DALPA (Dutch Airline Pilots Association) and became chairman of that committee in 2009.
Since 2013 he is also vice chairman of the security committee of IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilots Association). He participates in several working groups of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) and Eurocontrol.
Jo Schoenmaker is married and resides in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Netherlands.
In his free time Jo is a sound and light engineer for the Dutch Police Orchestra and Steelband, member of the rotary club Alphen-Woubrugge and actively plays golf.
