Professor Blain is a clinician working in acute medicine in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He is Professor of Environmental Medicine, Director of the Medical Toxicology Centre (a University Centre of Excellence) and Director of the NIHR funded Health Protection Research Unit in Chemical and Radiation Threats and Hazards at Newcastle University Medical School. He is also an Associate Director of the HPRU in Emergency Preparedness and Response at King’s College in London. Professor Blain has a specialist interest in Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) Medicine and related sciences. He is Clinical Consultant to the UK Defence Medical Services, and Specialist Agencies. He is currently chairman of the joint MOD and DH Advisory Group on Military and Emergency Response Medicine, and of the Advisory Group on Special Medical Countermeasures. He is a member (former chairman) of the Scientific Advisory Committee on the Medical Implications of Less-lethal Technologies.
